Nespresso Maintenance Guide

Nespresso machines require less mechanical maintenance than espresso machines but are more sensitive to descaling neglect — their small-volume boilers scale faster per brew than larger systems. This guide covers the complete maintenance schedule for VertuoPlus and Essenza Mini.

Descaling Concentration: Why Nespresso Requires Less

Nespresso machines use plastic internal components in the water path, unlike the brass or stainless construction of espresso machines. At concentrations above 1.5g/100ml, citric acid can begin to affect plastic fittings over many cycles. The standard 2g/100ml concentration used for Keurig or Breville machines is too high for Nespresso. Use 1g/100ml (equivalent to 5g citric acid for a 500ml solution). Use the Descaling Schedule Calculator for your water-hardness-based interval.
