If the capsule spins but no coffee flows, the water injection side of the system is blocked — the barcode was read and the centrifuge engaged, but water never reached the capsule. Three causes in order of likelihood.
Scale in the water path restricts injection flow — the centrifuge spins normally but water can't reach the capsule at pressure. Descale with citric acid at 1g/100ml (plastic internals require lower concentration). Enter descaling mode by holding the button for 7 seconds. Run both phases (solution then rinse) without powering off between them. Full two-phase procedure is identical to the Essenza Mini guide. Use the Descaling Schedule Calculator for your interval.
Can I use VertuoPlus capsules in the Vertuo Next?
Yes — all Vertuo Line capsules are cross-compatible across the entire Vertuo machine range. The Centrifusion barcode and capsule format are the same across VertuoPlus, Vertuo Next, Vertuo Pop, and Vertuo Creatista. Original Line capsules (Essenza Mini, Citiz) are a completely different system and are not compatible.
The Vertuo Next spun the capsule and it came out dry. Is it defective?
If the centrifuge ran but the capsule shows no moisture, the rotary lock was almost certainly not fully engaged and no water injected. The capsule is undamaged — reinsert it with the head fully locked and retry. If it still produces no output after confirmed full locking, the capsule may be defective; contact Nespresso for a replacement.
