Copper Heating Element — Concentration Limit The Moccamaster's copper heating element and copper showerhead arm require a maximum citric acid concentration of 1–1.5g per 100ml — lower than for stainless machines. At higher concentrations, citric acid reacts with copper to form copper citrate, leaving a blue-green residue inside the machine and potentially affecting taste. Standard descaling solution at 2g/100ml is safe for stainless but too aggressive for copper over repeated applications.

Showerhead Arm Maintenance

The copper arm is removed by quarter-turn counterclockwise from its mount inside the brew lid. Monthly soaking in 1g/100ml citric acid solution for 10–15 minutes clears mineral deposits from the 9 spray holes. Clear each hole with a wooden toothpick after soaking. Reinstall with a clockwise quarter-turn. Apply a small drop of food-grade silicone grease to the center swivel fitting annually to maintain smooth rotation.
